Week of September 2, 2024: Mayor Cherelle L. Parker Weekly Wrap-Up

It was a busy week for Mayor Cherelle L. Parker and the Parker Administration. Catch up on the key moments below.

Monday, September 2: Labor Day Parade

To celebrate Labor Day, Mayor Parker was on hand for the Labor Day Parade hosted by AFL-CIO on Columbus Boulevard. She spoke of her support for every labor organization and unionized workforce across the City and commended the progress and achievements they have made to move Philadelphia forward.

Wednesday, September 4: Citywide Cleaning Closeout Event

Wednesday marked the conclusion of the Parker Administration's 13-week, One Philly, United City Citywide Cleaning Program.

The goal was to clean every neighborhood in Philadelphia over the course of the Summer, which produced the successful completion of approximately 60,000 quality-of-life services by the Office of Clean and Green, including over 18,000 city blocks cleaned since June 3rd!

The Mayor stressed that this is only the beginning and that through intergovernmental collaboration, the Parker Administration will continue to use every resource to deliver on the promise of making Philadelphia, the Safest, Cleanest, and Greenest big city in the nation.

Wednesday, September 4: PHA Brith Sholom House Press Conference

After the Citywide Cleaning Closeout event, Mayor Parker held a press conference with the Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA) to announce their $24 million purchase of the Brith Sholom House. The 360-unit senior housing complex will undergo renovations to help restore the facility, better serve its current 100 residents, and expand to welcome even more.

Friday, September 6: Turn the Key's 100th Home

Friday morning, Mayor Parker celebrated the purchase of the 100th home in the City's "Turn the Key" program, a collaboration between the City's Land Bank and Philadelphia Housing Development Corporation (PHDC). By using publicly owned land to build the homes, the program reduces development costs, which has helped pave the way for Philadelphians to gain access to quality, affordable homes.

Friday, September 6: DC47 Press Conference

On Friday afternoon, Mayor Parker held a press conference to announce a historic contract extension for members of District Council 47. Every member will receive a 4.4 percent pay increase in 2025, plus a one-time bonus payment of $1,400. The City of Philadelphia has agreed to pay an additional $850,000 lump-sum payment into the Health & Welfare of DC47 to assist their members.
