In the US, Veterans Day is celebrated each November 11 to recognize the men and women who selflessly served our country to protect the freedoms that we all enjoy today.
For me, recognizing the sacrifices of our military on Veterans Day is personal. I come from a long line of family members who have dutifully served in the Armed Forces: my father served in the Korean War; my uncle served in Vietnam and his children all held high-ranking positions in the Air Force; and my aunt was an Army nurse during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. (We often joke that Aunt Evelyn must have been one of the nurses featured in the movie "Pearl Harbor"!)
While a simple "thank you" may seem insufficient for those who defended our nation, sometimes a kind word and recognition can make a world of difference in someone's life.
Last month in our Alpharetta office, one of the ways we celebrated Make a Difference Day was by partnering with A Million Thanks to send letters of gratitude and support to members of the military. Avanos employees and their family members wrote messages of appreciation to active, reserve and veteran military members stationed around the world. This simple gesture demonstrates the power of positivity and the impact it can have on others.
To all our Avanos veterans, and to all who have served, we thank you!
With respect and gratitude,
Michael
