City Shares Events Sept. 18-20 to Celebrate Tübingen Delegation Visit

September 16, 2024 - ​​A delegation from Ann Arbor's sister city, Tübingen, Germany, will be visiting the week of Sept. 16, 2024, to deepen the two communities' shared commitment to equitable climate action. To celebrate this week of in-person collaboration, and a sisterhood of international municipal collaboration, two public events have been scheduled:​

Climate Action in T​​​übingen Germany - What We Can Learn from Ann Arbor's Sister City

Wednesday, Sept. 18, 6 p.m., Ann Arbor District Library, Downtown Branch: Hear from Lord Mayor Palmer of Tübingen, Germany, as he shares what Ann Arbor's Sister City is doing to equitably address the climate crisis and how it can help shape Ann Arbor's A2ZERO initiative. This public interactive session provides a truly unique opportunity to hear directly from representatives from one of Ann Arbor's Sister Cities about their work to make Tübingen one of the most sustainable cities in the world.

A2ZERO Gree​n Fair

Friday, Sept. 20, 5-8 p.m., Main Street Ann Arbor: Join us for this annual event featuring over 80 exhibitors advancing sustainable living with information about renewable energy, energy waste reduction, the circular economy, local food systems, environmental resources, green transportation, environmental advocacy and justice, urban forestry, and so much more! Stroll the exhibits, enjoy live music with the Vicissitones, join the Bike Parade for the Planet at 6 p.m., bring a t-shirt for a sustainable screen print, bring a gadget to try fixing at the All Hands Active Repair Station, dance with Huron the Water Drop, check out a storm drain scope, and test your climate action knowledge at the A2ZERO Trivia Booth. ​​In addit​ion, two additional media events have been organized:

• Tübingen Park Bench Dedication, Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1:30-2 p.m., Tüebingen Park: Join Mayor Christopher Taylor of Ann Arbor, Lord Mayor Palmer of Tübingen, the Tübingen delegation, and city staff at this event dedicating a park bench to the continued collaboration of the two cities. Parking is available at the Traverwood branch of the Ann Arbor District Library with a short walk northwest down Huron Parkway to reach the park.

• Resilience Hub Launch Event with U.S. EPA Region 5, Thursday, Sept. 19, 4-4:30 p.m., Green Baxter Court: An event in collaboration with the city and EPA Region 5 to celebrate the awarding of an EPA Environmental Justice Government to Government grant to support resilience advancements in Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County, including work to transition Green Baxter Court's community center into a resilience hub.

Ann Arbor's Sister City Program began in 1965 when Tübingen became Ann Arbor's first sister city. Since then, delegations and residents from both cities have visited the other and collaborated internationally, offering insight and inspiration in a partnership that has lasted more than 50 years.
