How we’re supporting women in GI during Women in Medicine Month

September is Women in Medicine Month, and this month and every month, we're committed to supporting gender equity advancement in gastroenterology. AGA's Women in GI regional workshops are one way we're actively supporting this priority by bringing together women in communities across the country.

These workshops are an opportunity for women from all career stages to build community and seek counsel from colleagues on the topics most relevant to their personal and professional development.

We recently hosted two workshops - the Rocky Mountain West and Southwest - to support this, which included programming on:

  • Intentional career planning

  • Combating imposter syndrome

  • Dealing with microaggressions

  • Navigating ergonomics in endoscopy

  • Conquering burnout

Thank you to the more than 60 women who attended who made both workshops a success, including Dr. Ellen Manzullo, professor of medicine and deputy division head of internal medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. It's a privilege to be able to support and equip women in medicine to make a difference!

Special thanks to Drs. Toloupe Falaiye, Lisa Mathew and Ann Flynn (Rocky Mountain West course directors), and Drs. Richa Shukla, Jaclyn Tuck and Mehnaz A. Shafi (Southwest course directors) for their leadership in developing thoughtful programming.

Stay tuned for more opportunities to get engaged with the #WomenInGI community.

One more workshop remains!

Register now for the Southeast workshop, taking place Nov. 1-2, 2024, at the University of Miami. Don't miss our AGA President, Dr. Maria Abreau share her AGA journey to presidency as the keynote speaker.
