GVRS Board Members Recognize Employees and Milestones at Roosevelt Warm Springs

The Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Services Board recently hosted its August Board Meeting at Roosevelt Warm Springs, focusing on exciting updates and achievements of GVRA and the Roosevelt Warm Springs (RWS) campus.

Board Members toured exciting student pathways and updated campus facilities, as RWS welcomed more than 90 students - a record since the campus reorganized a year ago. Board Members also praised GVRA and RWS employees, recognizing the commitment and hard work that have contributed to an engaging and exciting campus for students with disabilities.

Fall applications for Roosevelt Warm Springs exceeded expectations, with the Pathways Program reaching maximum capacity only weeks after the enrollment period opened. Some 115 applications were approved for this fall, and 15 additional applications have been pre-approved for next spring. More than 300 students applied to the program, which offers industry-recognized certifications in Hospitality, Logistics (Forklift and Warehouse), Auto Detailing, CVS/Retail, Low Voltage Wiring, Certified Nursing Assistant, and Heavy Equipment Operator to students with disabilities seeking employment.

"We're just getting started," says RWS Residential Director Chip Medders "With our increased capacity, we expect to enroll even more students. Our outreach staff members have visited schools throughout the region to make principals, special ed teachers, and counselors aware of course offerings here at Roosevelt Warm Springs. As a result, we believe our graduation numbers will double in the next two years."

In addition to updates related to RWS, Board members also welcomed presentations from Mary Donahue, Executive Director of Georgia CTI and Executive Director Chris Wells and took time to recognize GVRA's Employees of the Month, saluting the dedicated employees for their extraordinary work and daily support of our clients. The GVRA's Employee of the Month program honors those whose performance goes above and beyond the normal demands of their job, exceeding expectations with their achievements and acts. The Board Members extended a special thank you and congratulations to these outstanding employees.
