On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman participated in the Croatia Business Summit held in Zagreb. Organized by The Economist, the summit was titled "Strengthening Optimism and Resilience in Unpredictable Times." Prominent officials, leading experts, and representatives from the academic community gathered to discuss the economic challenges Croatia and Europe face in light of current geopolitical tensions.
Addressing the importance of building resilience and stability in the southeastern neighbourhood, Grlić Radman emphasized the significance of regional cooperation and Euro-Atlantic integration for these countries, affirming Croatia's support on this path. "For Croatia, a stable and secure region is imperative," said the minister, urging these nations to carry out the necessary reforms diligently. He further stated that a strong, active presence of the European Union and NATO, along with openness to further enlargement, is crucial for the stability of Southeast Europe.
Grlić Radman cautioned that without robust EU assistance, including financial support, technical expertise, and a common security policy, Southeast European countries remain vulnerable to external influences and hybrid threats, which, he noted, transcend the region's borders. He added that hybrid threats and actions by authoritarian regimes pose serious risks, targeting essential societal segments-from democratic institutions and economic systems to social cohesion itself. "As an EU member, Croatia leads in promoting democratic values, peace, and good neighbourly relations and is the only EU country financing an anti-disinformation project under its National Recovery and Resilience Plan," said Grlić Radman. He also noted the recent launch of a new central platform for publishing verified information.
