City of Pasadena and One Arroyo Foundation to Host Groundbreaking Event for Arroyo Trail Project

PASADENA, Calif. - The City of Pasadena, Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department and the One Arroyo Foundation warmly invites the public to a groundbreaking event on Saturday, July 13th at 10:00 AM at Brookside Park, Picnic Area G (south of the park), 360 N. Arroyo Blvd. This event marks the beginning of the One Arroyo Trail Critical Linkages Project, an initiative aimed at revitalizing the Arroyo Seco's trail system. Join us in celebrating this inaugural step towards creating safe and accessible trails for the Pasadena community, while restoring Pasadena's cherished open space for future generations.

The One Arroyo Trail Critical Linkages Project is designed to address the deterioration of the Arroyo Seco's trail system by connecting three distinct areas, improving trail conditions, and reopening the historic Mayberry-Parker bridge. The Arroyo Seco encompasses nearly 1,000 acres of urban forest and offers 22 miles of potential continuous trails, serving as a vital resource for Pasadena residents. However, heavy use, erosion, and deferred maintenance have made some trails inaccessible and unsafe.

"We are thrilled to initiate this project, which not only enhances the safety and accessibility of our trails but also preserves the natural beauty of the Arroyo Seco for generations to come," said Mayor of Pasadena, Victor M. Gordo "This project represents a significant investment in our community's health, well-being, and enjoyment of our unique urban open space. We would like to thank Senator Anthony Portantino's Office, the Pasadena Community Foundation and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy for their contributions and continued support."

The groundbreaking event will also feature remarks from Vice Mayor Steve Madison and other community leaders, highlighting the importance of this project for Pasadena. "The Arroyo Seco is the crown jewel of west Pasadena, and we're so excited to break ground on this project to improve miles of well-loved trails in this beautiful natural resource," said Pasadena Vice Mayor Steve Madison, who represents Council District 6 which includes much of the Arroyo. "A project of this type is long overdue, so thank you to the One Arroyo Foundation for helping get shovels in the ground."
