‘UW in Your Community’ Event Sept. 16 in Fremont County

Ed Seidel

Members of the public will learn about the University of Wyoming's collaborations with Central Wyoming College and other efforts in Fremont County, and UW alumni will connect with their alma mater during a "UW in Your Community" gathering Monday, Sept. 16, at CWC's Teton Science Institute near Lander.

The public is invited to the event from 5-7 p.m. Free appetizers will be served, and there will be a cash bar.

UW President Ed Seidel and CWC President Brad Tyndall will be in attendance and speak during a brief program, highlighting collaborative efforts to prepare students for the modern economy and boost entrepreneurism and the state's economy.

Additionally, UW Associate Professor Catherine Wagner will discuss her team's research in the high-elevation lakes of the Wind River Mountains, including the discovery of rapid evolution of trout in the once-fishless alpine lakes.

And Dan McCoy, director of UW's Wyoming Outdoor Recreation, Tourism and Hospitality Initiative, will discuss its collaborative work in Fremont County.

Current UW students from Fremont County -- Riverton High School graduates Kameron Murfitt and Brett Jones, and Lander Valley High School graduates Kaycee Conder and Claire Lane -- will share their experiences at UW. Murfitt is the current president of UW's student government, the Associated Students of UW.

During the day before the Sept. 16 evening event, Seidel, Wagner and the current UW students from Fremont County are scheduled to speak to students during assemblies at Lander Valley and Riverton high schools.

The Fremont County gathering is the 18th in a series of "UW in Your Community" gatherings planned around the state.

"This will be a great opportunity for community members to interact with President Seidel, President Tyndall and others from UW and CWC; learn about exciting initiatives for students and the state; and see some of the collaborative work UW is doing with local partners," says Chad Baldwin, UW's associate vice president for marketing and communications. "UW alumni and everyone across Fremont County are invited for what will be a fun evening."
