The Minister for Defence, Margarita Robles, is received by her counterpart, Hanana Ouid Sidi
The African country is in a privileged geographical position. It is one of the largest fishing grounds in the world and has a great biodiversity of marine flora and fauna.
At present, 31 Spanish fishing vessels are operating along these coasts thanks to the agreement between the European Union and Mauritania.
The minister was received by her counterpart, Hanana Ouid Sidi, with whom she held a brief meeting at the airport.
Afterwards, Robles went to the beach and fishing port of Nouakchott, together with the Mauritanian Defence Secretary, Sambu Dia, and a small delegation from both countries, where she spoke with the fishers and saw the Mauritanian fishing fleet in situ. Today, she learned how fisheries, one of the country's main sources of income, are managed.
