MARIETTA, GA - A beloved Marietta tradition, the Marietta Pilgrimage Christmas Home Tour offers guests a chance to explore some of Marietta's most beautiful private residences, each adorned with stunning holiday décor. In addition to five tour homes, a number of Marietta's beautiful churches, museums, and other historic buildings are included in the tour. The event is hosted by Cobb Landmarks and Visit Marietta and is organized by a committee made up of local volunteers who work together to plan the event each year.
The Marietta Pilgrimage moves to a different neighborhood in Marietta each year. This year's tour features Marietta's Whitlock Avenue National Register Historic District. "So many people only get to admire these homes from the road or sidewalk. With the tour, people get a chance to see the interiors, gather design inspiration, and learn about the dedication involved in preserving and restoring historic homes," said Cobb Landmarks Executive Director Trevor Beemon. "This year's tour is really special in that it offers a diverse range of architectural styles, from classic Victorian to mid century to modern contemporary."
Each tour home is staffed by volunteer docents who help share information and answer questions. "We have such wonderful volunteer docents," said Beemon. "The tour really would not be possible without them." The tour requires roughly 200 volunteers. Volunteer docents earn a free Marietta Pilgrimage Home Tour ticket for each shift they volunteer to work. Those interested in signing up to become a volunteer docent should visit MariettaPilgrimage.com/Volunteer.
The Marietta Pilgrimage begins with a candlelight tour on Friday, December 6th, from 5pm to 8pm. The tour continues Saturday and Sunday, December 7th and 8th, from 9am to 4pm. Complimentary shuttle buses will transport visitors between tour homes. Discounted tour tickets may be purchased online in advance at MariettaPilgrimage.com. Tickets will also be available for purchase in-person at the William Root House and Marietta Welcome Center the week of the tour. Tickets are $30 per person in advance and $35 per person during the tour.
