Carper Tours Federally Funded Transportation Projects in Kent County ➞

U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) joined representatives from the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) on Monday, August 5, 2024, to view transportation projects that will improve the safety and efficiency of Kent County's roads and reduce emissions. These projects were made possible by a combination of state and federal funding, including funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Congressionally Directed Spending process secured by Senators Carper, Chris Coons and Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester (also D-Del.).

"From the East Camden Bypass to the Kenton Road Project to the bike and pedestrian pathway project in Dover to installing solar panels to power DART's fleet of electric buses, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and other federal funds secured by Delaware's congressional delegation are improving our infrastructure and putting people to work," said Senator Carper, Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee in the Senate who helped lead the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law through the Senate. "These improvements make Kent County an even more attractive place to work and raise a family."

East Camden Bypass

This project, funded with $17.8 million from the Federal Highway Administration, will improve the capacity of US 13 and Lebanon Road (SR 10), and the safety of the US 13/Old North Road intersection.

Delaware Transit Corporation Administration Building

The Dover Transit Corporation received federal grants from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for $6.2 million to add solar panels to the Administration building and the Dover Transit Center.

Kenton Road Project

This project, funded with $26.3 million from the Federal Highway Administration, will result in wider lanes, additional lanes, shared-use paths, sidewalks, bike passages, lighting, a roundabout for the intersection of Kenton and Chestnut Grove roads, and added turn lanes and drainage/storm water facilities.

Senator Bikeway Project

DelDOT received $960,000 in Congressionally Directed Spending, secured by Delaware's congressional delegation, to provide a safe bicycle and pedestrian pathway between Dover High School and downtown Dover. This project is designed to create a more bicycle-friendly Dover. The Bikeway connects East Dover to West Dover and this project will include the design and construction of a bike/pedestrian pathway along Route 8 from Mifflin Road to Dover High School.
