DENTON, TX, Nov. 12, 2024 - The City of Denton has released the results of an independent review of the Denton Animal Shelter, alongside city leadership's response and action plan based on the findings.
In September 2024, City Manager Sara Hensley commissioned an independent subject matter expert, Shelter Savvy, to conduct a comprehensive and independent review of the Animal Services Department's operating procedures.
The review findings provide key recommendations to enhance shelter operations, improve transparency, and align procedures with best practices in animal welfare. In response, the City has already begun implementing several recommendations and operational improvements.

Additionally, an ongoing audit to assess the functionality of the Linda McNatt Animal Care and Adoption Center is being conducted by the City Auditor's Office. Findings of the audit will be presented to Council in early 2025.
