VENTURA - California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) today announced the apprehension of a person who walked away from a Ventura County base camp on Monday, Nov. 11, 2024.
Rudy Rasso, 27, was part of a crew dispatched from California Men's Colony (CMC) to the Ventura County Fairgrounds, which was serving as a fire base camp. Rasso was determined to be unaccounted for at 11:45 p.m. He was apprehended without incident at 3 a.m. on Nov. 12 by the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.
Rasso's case will be referred to the Ventura County District Attorney for possible escape charges and he was transported to CMC.
Rasso, 27, was most recently received from Riverside County on Oct. 25, 2023, to serve five years, eight months for second-degree robbery with an enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury and carrying a concealed dirk or dagger.
Since 1977, 99 percent of all people who have left an adult institution, camp, or in-state contract bed or Community Rehabilitative Program Placement have been apprehended.
