The City of Birmingham announces funding program and will host information session

Beginning Monday, Aug. 5, the City of Birmingham will seek proposals for its 2025-2026 Building Opportunities for Lasting Development (BOLD) funding program. Established in 2018, BOLDprovides financial support to organizations dedicated to advancing economic development within the city through initiatives focused on five key focus areas: small businesses, workforce development, eliminating barriers, creative placemaking, and high-growth industries.

"Birmingham's organizations are indispensable in serving our residents and driving progress," said Birmingham Mayor Randall L. Woodfin. "I am delighted to announce continued support for BOLDawardees as a strategic investment in our city's residents."

Over the last six years BOLDhas directly contributed $4.6 million to 50 local organizations (learn more here). The program was recently allocated up to $1 million in the city's FY25 budget.

"The BOLDprogram is a cornerstone of our community's transformation," said Cornell Wesley, Director of Innovation and Economic Opportunity. "Its impact is felt across the board, from empowering residents and businesses to driving neighborhood revitalization. BOLDawardees are instrumental in shaping Birmingham's future. As we celebrate the program's seventh year, it's increasingly clear that BOLDis a catalyst for economic mobility throughout the city."

Project proposals will be evaluated and selected by a committee consisting of members from both the mayor's office and the city council administration. The BOLDprogram is devoted to aiding local businesses and organizations in crafting effective proposals by providing technical assistance workshops and support during office hours.
