Pride month will reach its climax at Tikkurila’s park picnic

On June 1-30, Vantaa will celebrate equality at various Pride events, which will take place all over the city.

This year, approximately twenty different actors-ranging from organizations to the city's units-will participate in Vantaa Pride.

A rainbow mass will open the summer's Pride season at Myyrmäki's Virtakirkko on June 6, 2024. Participants to the mass consist of pastor Aki Kekkonen and Vantaa congregation's House Band, conducted by youth worker Antti Kotinurmi.

The main event of the Pride month is Puistopiknik ("Park picnic"), which will be take place in Tikkurila's Kirjastopuisto on June 16, at 12:00-17:00.

The park picnic offers stage performances, as well as workshops at the organizers' own stands. There will be program for people of all ages.

Mega Paula will not only host the event, but also present his own eventful set, which consists of several fabulous hits. Pimeä Hedelmä, a rap music group consisting of young women, will also perform in the event.

The program of the Kirkko Vantaalla ("Church in Vantaa") tent in the park fest includes, among others, crafts for families with children, hugs by a caring elder, face painting, and yard games, as well as cards and stickers.

Nuorten aikuisten olohuone's ("Young adults' living room") activities will be transferred to Kirjastopuisto for the duration of the park picnic. In the Young adults' living room, you can engage in gaming and leave your own handprint on the Wall Of Kindness community artwork. After the park picnic, the participants will together depart for the City Museum, to attend the Ysäri Pride exhibition. Night at the Museum: PRIDE consists of, for instance, workshops with themes derived from the 1990s. Nuorten aikuistenilta ("Young Adults' Evening) takes place at 16:00-22:00.

On the same day, City Museum, too, offers various kinds of events at 16:00-22:00.

What's new in the program is a bilingual mass, in English and in Swedish, at Tikkurila Church at 16:00-17:00.

During the Pride week, Vantaa Art Museum Artsi will arrange two queer-guided toursof the current Kotini jossain ("My Home Somewhere") exhibition. The first guided tour will take place on Tuesday, June 25, at 14:00, and the second on Thursday, June 27, at 17:00. The queer point of view challenges standards and norms related to home and art, seeks new alternatives to them, as well as introduces interpretations from the queer perspective. The events are free of charge, and no advance enrollment is required.

In June, Mosaiikki library's activities include making of stickers and textile bags.

Furthermore, libraries, too, offer plenty of other programs, such as book presentations.

A joint departure for the Pride march in Helsinki will be arranged on Saturday, June 29. Assembly at Monitoimitila Liito (Lummetie 2 Bc) at 10:00.

Volunteers are welcome to come and help with the arrangements of the various events, particularly the park picnic.
