Nashville Restaurant Owner Dies After Being Hit by Pickup Truck on June 19; Investigation Continuing

Smokin Thighs restaurant owner Matthew Carney, who was struck and critically injured by a pickup truck June 19 on the restaurant property at 611 Wedgewood Avenue, died Thursday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Carney, 42, was thrown off of a Nissan Frontier pickup truck and onto Wedgewood Avenue as it came from the rear of Smokin Thighs at a high rate of speed. The pickup truck, bearing a temp tag, was recovered in the early morning hours of June 29 after an officer spotted it in the parking lot of the LaQunita Inn on Sidco Drive. It had been mostly spray-painted.

Fatal crash investigators continue in their work to identify the person who was driving the pickup truck on June 19. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. A reward totaling more than $10,000 is being offered for detail leading to the arrest and indictment of the driver.
