EFSA's 10-year anniversary brochure captures concisely the Authority's progress over a decade with regards to scientific risk assessment and risk communications. The brochure focuses on key areas of EFSA's work that demonstrate the impact of the organisation since its inception in 2002. These include crucial public health and consumer protection issues such as the control of Salmonella in the food chain, the safety evaluation of food additives and the assessment of risks for the environment related, for example, to the introduction of GM plants or the use of plant protection products. Different aspects of EFSA's activities over the last 10 years are presented in easy-to-digest case studies with forewords from Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle, EFSA's Executive Director, and Paola Testori Coggi, Director General of the Directorate-General for Health and Consumers of the European Commission.
