2011 saw progress on implementing a fully integrated Quality Management System (QMS) for EFSA with the following highlights:
-
Adoption by the Management Team of a Declaration of Intent (Annex 1), including the ambition to have a QMS based on ISO 9001:2008 covering the scientific activities implemented by the end of 2013 and covering all activities by the end of 2016;
-
Preparation of an Operating Framework that brings together the standards, policy documents and procedures that are established by the management to govern the quality of EFSA's scientific activities. It is thus the reference document against which the quality of EFSA's operation can be assessed over a given period;
-
Completion of the second External Review evaluation.
Monitoring of the organisations' performance in terms of Quality has been incorporated in to the Balanced ScoreCard adopted by the organisation; this along with the review process included in the Operating Framework means that the organisation has identified all the key elements (Plan, Do, Check Act) of the QMS.
