Rylen Luck’s dream of nursing comes true at Radford University

Since middle school, Rylen Luck '24 has wanted to be a nurse. She chose Radford to earn her degree and launch her career because of the College of Nursing's outstanding reputation across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

"The nursing program at Radford is one of the best in the state, and I wanted to be part of that," said the native of Powhatan, Virginia. "Once I got here to campus, I really liked the community and how close everybody is."

Luck wanted to go into nursing primarily to help people, but her long-term goals involve being a positive change agent in healthcare, an advocate for her patients and a positive role model for those who follow her into the nursing profession.

"I'm proud to be a Highlander because it's like a family when you come here," she said. "Everyone is so nice and compassionate."

Before she even begins her senior year, Luck has already lined up a job.

"When I graduate, I will be working at Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital out in Richmond, Virginia," she said. "I'm going to be a neurocritical care nurse and will be working with a great team. We are a stroke unit with an epileptic watching center. It's great."

To prospective students considering becoming a Highlander, Luck says, "Radford is a great place to be. It's a nice community in a beautiful location, and the education programs are amazing. I'm super grateful to be part of this community and to be a Highlander!"
