Colombia opens its market for exports of distillers’ dried grains

The Brazilian government welcomes the announcement by the Colombian government authorizing the export of distiller's dried grains, known as DDG or DDGS, from Brazil to Colombia.

The product is a source of protein and energy used as feedstuff in rations for ruminants, pigs, poultry, fish and shrimp. DDG/DDGS is derived from second crop corn-ethanol. The maize is planted in the same area of the main crop after it is harvested, in the same agricultural year. Therefore, it does not demand additional land for cultivation, thus resulting in better use of natural resources.

With this new authorization, the Brazilian agribusiness sector obtained its 105rd market opening this year, totaling 183 openings across 58 countries since the beginning of 2023.

The openings are the result of joint efforts between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA).
