Assembly Bill 1840: The latest legislative Democrats’ ploy to reward undocumented immigrants

Senate Republicans' analysis exposes plan to pull funds from veterans, give $$$ to undocumented immigrants

In the final days of the Legislative Session, California Senate Republicanshighlight another bad bill as they release a policy analysisof Assembly Bill 1840(D-Arambula), which would give taxpayer dollars to undocumented immigrants to help them purchase a home. The proposal is yet another example in a long litany of taxpayer dollar giveaways by California Democrat politicians that encourages and rewards illegal immigration. Senate Minority Leader Brian W. Jones(R-San Diego) appeared on FOX Business recently to share his concerns about the bad bill. Click HEREto watch his interview on FOX Business.

"Many 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation Californians can't afford to buy a house in their home state thanks to record unaffordability under Democrat rule," said Leader Jones. "With many legal residents not able to afford a home, should we really be giving free cash to illegal immigrants? Every dollar that goes to an illegal immigrant is one less dollar available to legal residents including veterans, teachers, and families. California already spends $5 billion per year on free healthcare for illegal immigrants-will it ever be enough for Democrats political agendas?"

AB 1840 will bar the state from disqualifying someone from its Home Purchase Assistance Program (HPAP) based solely on the person's immigration status, meaning California's taxpayers will be rewarding people who have chosen to disregard our country's laws.

The giveaway of public funds also comes at the expense of military veterans. As part of the program, the state works to provide home purchase assistance to first-time veteran homebuyers. Expanding the housing assistance program to include undocumented immigrants will inevitably reduce the amount of funds available for veterans.

"It would be so very wrong to prioritize undocumented immigrants over the men and women who have made great sacrifices in military service to our country," said Senator Brian Dahle(R-Bieber). "California is struggling with a multi-billion dollar deficit, and numerous housing and homelessness programs providing vital assistance to so many struggling Californians face budget cuts. AB 1840 would short-change veterans even more."
