Raleigh Transportation and NCDOT Upgrade Glenwood Avenue Traffic Signal for Enhanced Safety

A traffic signal upgrade at the intersection of Glenwood Avenue, Fairhill Drive, and Rembert Drive is complete.

This busy intersection now has new crosswalks and pedestrian crossing signals. We've also added wheelchair-accessible curb ramps and extra traffic signal heads. This project will make it safer and easier to access destinations on foot, by transit, or in a car.

New crosswalks and pedestrian signals will help residents safely cross Glenwood Avenue. This will improve access to bus stops, shopping centers, and neighborhoods. The curb ramps have been rebuilt to be wheelchair accessible. To use the crosswalk, press the button and wait for the "walk" symbol, then cross the street.

We also added an extra traffic signal head in each direction on Glenwood Avenue. The new signal heads will increase the visibility of the red lights. This will help prevent crashes caused by red light running. A new left turn signal on eastbound Fairhill Drive will make it easier to turn left onto Glenwood Avenue. The left turn signal will show a green arrow when demand for the left turn is high and will flash yellow at other times.

This project results from a partnership between the City of Raleigh and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). Raleigh's Vision Zero team identified the need for this project. NCDOT funded, designed and built the project. Raleigh's Vision Zero program aims to eliminate deaths on our roadways.
