Lexington Fire Department places new engines in service

The Lexington Fire Department proudly announces two new engines going into service in downtown Lexington!

Both are manufactured by Seagrave Fire Apparatus and cost $846,445. each. They are equipped with Cummins L9 diesel engines, Capitol cabs, Waterous 1250 gallon-per-minute pumps, and an internal 750-gallon water tank. They are replacing Engine 1 and Engine 5, each a 2004 model, which will become reserve apparatus.

Mayor Gorton said, "Public safety is the most important service our city government provides, and it is my top priority. I take my job to make sure our firefighters are well trained, and well equipped, very seriously."

"We are fortunate to be placing these new engines in service," said Fire Chief Jason Wells. "Since the pandemic, with supply chain issues, a new engine can take more than three years to manufacture from order to delivery; these Engines are a testament to the high priority Mayor Gorton and our City Council place on Public Safety. We could not be prouder to place these engines in service tomorrow morning."
