The Wyoming Arts Council, in partnership with the University of Wyoming College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, will host a celebration of the newly installed sculpture, "Lines of Sight," at UW.

The free public event will take place Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 5:30-7 p.m. in UW's Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB) atrium, located at 1114 E. Bradley St. The sculpture recently was installed outside the EERB.

The artists -- Ashley Hope Carlisle, a UW professor of sculpture, and David Jones, an art instructional technician with the UW Department of Visual Arts -- will present an artist talk at 6 p.m. During the talk, Carlisle and Jones will discuss the conception of the project and the process of making a large, technical-inspired work of art.

"Art in public buildings plays a vital role in shaping the cultural and aesthetic identity of a community," Jones says. "It enhances shared spaces by adding visual interest, encouraging dialogue and creating a sense of pride and ownership."

"Public art also can stimulate economic development by attracting visitors and enhancing property values," Carlisle says. "In a broader sense, art in public buildings in and around the great state of Wyoming helps to establish a dialogue between the community and its environment, and it inspires civic pride and reinforces the collective identity of the people it serves. By integrating art into the everyday lives of citizens, public buildings become not just functional structures, but vital cultural hubs that foster connection, reflection and enrichment for all."

Art in public buildings legislation for the state of Wyoming is administered through the Wyoming Arts Council.
