The University of Wyoming Department of Music will host the Byrne:Kozar:Duo Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 5 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. The recital is free and open to the public.

Created by soprano Corrine Byrne and trumpeter Andy Kozar, the Byrne:Kozar:Duo presents historically informed performances of Baroque music for natural trumpet and soprano in addition to commissioning new works for modern trumpet and soprano.

The duo's UW performance will feature music for voice and trumpet by Chen Yi, Christina George, Beth Weimann, Qi Li, Marti Epstein and Alexandre Lunsqui.

The duo has been said to create "an arresting symbiosis in their melding of voice and trumpet timbres" (Textura).

Hailed as a rising star, Boston- and New York-based soprano Byrne has quickly become a sought-after interpreter of repertoire from the medieval period to the Baroque era and of music by today's most daring contemporary composers.

A native of Pittsburgh, Kozar is a New York City- and Boston-based trumpeter, improviser, composer and educator. A flexible performer well versed in many styles, he has performed with the St. Petersburg Ballet, Wordless Music Orchestra, the Ostravska Banda, based in the Czech Republic, and Symphony New Hampshire.

As recording artists, the duo can be heard on a recent release of the music of Scott Wollschleger on New Focus Recordings, which was named a Notable Recording of 2017 in The New Yorker. Recent appearances include performances at the Time:Spans Festival, the Boston Early Music Festival, the Lake George Music Festival, Divergent Studio at the Longy School of Music of Bard College, nienteForte in New Orleans and New Music Miami. The duo also has been heard on American Public Media's "Performance Today" as well as on National Public Radio.
