Dates, times of fall 2024 commencement ceremonies announced

Wednesday, December 11, 2024

On Dec. 19-22, more than 1,700 University of Iowa students will receive their degrees during in-person and livestreamed commencement ceremonies, beginning with the College of Education's undergraduate and Teacher Education Program recognition Dec. 19 and concluding with the College of Engineering, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and University College ceremonies on Dec. 22.

Thursday, Dec. 19

College of Education
Undergraduate Commencement and Teacher Education Program Recognition Ceremony
4 p.m.
Hancher Auditorium

Dean Dan Clay will give the welcome, and will confer degrees along with Executive Vice President and Provost Kevin Kregel.

Jon Sexton, an alumnus of the College of Education, will be the keynote speaker. Sexton is the senior vice president of culture and leadership at Vibrant Credit Union and the founder of Sexton Leadership.

Meredith Caskey, visiting instructor in elementary physical education, health, and wellness, will be the faculty speaker. Kaitlin Felderman, from Delmar, Iowa, will be the student speaker. Felderman is graduating with a degree in Social Studies Education, as well as a degree in History from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Mark McDermott, associate dean for teacher education and student services, will recognize those who completed the Teacher Education Program.

Friday, Dec. 20

Doctoral degree candidates

Hancher Auditorium

UI President Barbara Wilson and Amanda Thein, associate provost for graduate education and dean, will deliver messages to students. Graduate Jessica Purnell, of Kewanee, Illinois, will give the student address. Purnell is earning a Doctor of Philosophy in Neuroscience.

Master's degree candidates
7 p.m.
Hancher Auditorium

UI President Barbara Wilson and Amanda Thein, associate provost for graduate education and dean, will deliver messages to students. Kaylee Trinh, from Cua Lo, Vietnam, will give the student address. Trinh is earning a Master of Science degree in business analytics.

Saturday, Dec. 21

College of Nursing
9 a.m.
Hancher Auditorium

Dean Julie Zerwic will deliver messages to students, and President Barbara Wilson will confer degrees. Alumnus Jonathan Szczesny, the ceremony's keynote speaker, is the recipient of the Outstanding Young Alumni Award. Jason O'Neill, of Solon, Iowa, will be the student speaker.

Hancher Auditorium

The commencement speaker will be Laura Westercamp, who serves as managing director in Accenture's Life Sciences Strategy practice and serves on the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center Alumni Board. Natalie Moningi, from Coralville, Iowa, will be the student speaker. Moningi will be graduating with a BBA in Marketing and certificates in nonprofit Leadership and Philanthropy and Event Management.

Sunday, Dec. 22

College of Engineering

Dean Ann McKenna will deliver messages to students, and Executive Vice President and Provost Kevin Kregel will confer degrees. Graduate Alejandra Vilca Landa - who is originally from Lima, Peru, but now lives in Iowa City - will be the student speaker. She will be graduating with a degree in biomedical engineering.

College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
University College
1 p.m.
Carver-Hawkeye Arena

Dean Sara Sanders and President Barbara Wilson will confer degrees at the ceremony, which includes graduates in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and University College. The student speaker will be Lucie Brennan, of Iowa City, who will receive a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, a minor in Spanish, and a certificate in event management.
