Italian Sports Day arrives in Brno

The initiatives organised by the Italian Embassy in Prague, within the framework of the sports diplomacy project "Giornata dello Sport Italiano nel Mondo" (Italian Sports Day in the World), will arrive in Brno, lower Moravia, on 21 and 22 September. Protagonist of the event will be Andrea Tomatis, Italian coach of the Czech national beach volleyball team - the current world champion - who, with the help of Czech and Italian assistants, will hold a training session with a final competition reserved for ten promising young under-14 and under-16 volleyball players selected by the Sokol Brno I sports club.

The competition to be held on Sunday, 22 September, at 10 a.m. at the Sokol sports complex (Kninicky 149) will be attended by the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Italy Laura Calligaro, the Brno Councillor for Sports Tomas Aberl, the Honorary Consul of Italy in Brno Pavel Zezula, as well as regional and city authorities. On Saturday, 21 September, the event will be attended by MP Petra Quittova, a member of the Italy-Czech Republic Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group.

The Ambassador of Italy, Mauro Marsili, has underlined how the "Italian Sports Day" is not only intended to showcase athletic excellence, but also to deepen the bond between Italy and the Czech Republic through the universal language of sport. For Marsili, sport has also become increasingly important as an instrument of growth diplomacy, as witnessed by the numerous appointments and initiatives that since 2023, on the initiative of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, have counted on the visibility of major sporting events to amplify Italy's ability to promote itself by attracting tourism, narrating its territories, culture, industrial and technological excellence.
