Pile Driving Work Scheduled for Hearn Avenue Overcrossing

Work on the Hearn Avenue Overcrossing Improvement project will continue building up the dirt fill area in the northeast corner at Hearn and Corby Avenue and excavating behind the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in the northwest corner. During this process, trucks will be entering and exiting the work areas to haul material from the DMV side to the Santa Rosa Avenue side of Hearn Avenue. Crews will also continue work at the new bridge abutment at Corby and Hearn Avenue installing shoring.

The installation of two test piles, supports for the new overcrossing, is expected to begin October 4, 2024. This work will take place during the day on the northwest side of the project area, it is expected to take 1-2 hours and will be noisy. It is anticipated that pile driving for the new bridge will begin the week of October 7, pending the test pile results. Pile driving for the Stage 1 bridge work is expected to take approximately one month to complete. Most of the pile driving will take place during the day, except for the piles in the median of Highway 101, which will occur during the night due to lane closures that will be necessary to facilitate the work. More information will be provided once the contractor's schedule and work progress is confirmed.

Note, as the work progresses, there will be increased construction noise, and that upcoming construction work is subject to change pending actual work progress.

During construction of the overcrossing, residents may consider taking an alternative route such as Baker Avenue as delays are to be expected.
