Bukit Asam (PTBA) Promoting Innovation and Business Development

PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), a member of the MIND ID Group, continues its transformation to achieve its vision of becoming a world-class energy company that cares about the environment. Throughout 2023, different initiatives have been taken to encourage innovation and business development.

In order to promote increased added value from coal and technological advancement in the field of new and renewable energy (NRE), partnerships have been developed with a number of entities, including with National Research & Innovation Agency (BRIN) and several universities.

"Achieving the vision of becoming a world-class energy company that cares about the environment requires breakthroughs. Collaboration and support from various entities are needed in order for transformation of PT Bukit Asam Tbk to be successful. We hope that cooperation with different stakeholders will result in innovations that create sustainable businesses," said the Director PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) Business Development Rafli Yandra.

As part of renewal efforts, PTBA cultivates red calliandra on 80 hectares (ha) of land in Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra. After being cultivated in October 2023, red calliandra will be processed into wood pellets, a coal-mixed fuel (cofiring) at Steam Power Plants.

"Red calliandra cultivation is one of the Company's reclamation initiatives. This is PTBA's effort to support the energy transition in order to achieve the Net Zero Emission target by 2060 set by the Government," said Rafli.

Strategic projects continue to be implemented to support the Company's performance. The Sumsel-8 Mine Mouth Steam Power Plant (2x621.72 MW) achieved Commercial Operation Date (COD) status in October 7, 2023, and is already commercially operational.

This plant applies Supercritical Steam Generator technology which is efficient and environmentally friendly, as well as Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) technology to reduce exhaust gas emissions.

Aside from that, PTBA and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or PT KAI agreed on a collaboration framework for constructing coal transportation on the Tanjung Enim Baru - Keramasan link on October 12, 2023. This project will improve PTBA's coal transportation capacity to 20 million tons per year.

In this collaboration, PT KAI will develop the facilities and infrastructure for rail transportation, PT Kereta Api Logistik (Kalog) will establish the dock facilities in Keramasan, and PTBA will build the coal handling facility. The groundbreaking of the coal handling facility was held by PTBA on December 30, 2023.

"This year, we will continue to take numerous initiatives that we took in 2023 to foster innovation and development. PTBA is committed to sustaining its contributions to energy security, economic development, and community welfare," he said.
