Duo Velox to present guest recital Oct. 17

NATCHITOCHES - Duo Velox will present a recital at Northwestern State University on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. A livestream of the concert will be available at nsula.edu/capa/capalivestream.

Formed in 2016, Duo Velox consists of Kaitlyn Neufeld on clarinet and Aaron Burr on saxophone. The duo has performed throughout the southwest and Kansas, including notable performances and premieres at the International Duo Symposium, International Clarinet Association ClarinetFest and at the North American Saxophone Alliance. Neufeld and Burr advocate for new music and expanding the repertoire for the clarinet/saxophone duo.

The program will include music by John Kosch, Gregory Wanamaker, Takuma Itoh and Dustin Schulze.

Neufeld is an active soloist, chamber musician and teacher. She has performed with the Kansas City Lyric Opera, New Mexico Philharmonic, New Texas Symphony Orchestra, Crossroads Wind Ensemble, Pinnacle Winds and the Albuquerque Symphony. As an advocate for new music, she regularly commissions new works for clarinet and her duos, Duo Velox and Abraxas Reeds. Neufeld teaches at Dallas College and maintains a private studio in the Dallas area. Her passion is woodwind pedagogy and can be seen in her dissertation, "A Clarinetist's Guide to Multiple Woodwinds."

A native of northern Arizona, saxophonist and educator, Burr is an advocate for student achievement and new music. Burr maintains a private studio both virtually and in the Dallas area where his students have received superior ratings at solo and ensemble competitions, in addition to placing in regional bands, and regional jazz bands. Maintaining an active performance schedule, he has performed with Plano Symphony Orchestra, San Angelo Symphony Orchestra, New Texas Symphony Orchestra and the Greeley Philharmonic. As an advocate of new music Burr regularly commissions works for saxophone, and recently has been commissioning a series of works for tenor saxophone and fixed media.

Neufeld and Burr will also present master classes for students while at NSU.
