Japanese Ceramics - from the collection of the National Gallery of Aus

Pieces from the National Gallery of Australia's (NGA) collection is coming to Temora, thanks to the Federal Government's Sharing the National Collection program.

Temora Shire's connection with Sister City Izumizaki, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, guided the choice in the collection we will receive, being that of Japanese ceramics. Pieces from four celebrated Japanese ceramic artists will take pride of place in Temora Arts Centre from 1 June 2024, for two years until 2026.

"Having these beautiful Japanese artworks find their way to the Temora Arts Centre is a significant display of the importance of that relationship" said Tony Burke MP, Minister for the Arts, on the works that were chosen.

"I'm thrilled that Temora's residents and the many visitors to the Riverina will have another reason to engage with the Temora Arts Centre and experience the National Gallery's collection," said Senator for NSW, Debroah O'Neil.

From 11 - 21 June, Temora Shire Library will also be home to the gifts for sister city Izumizaki Council, made by our local artists.

Both the NGA collection and Aboriginal Art Trail will be celebrated with an official opening on Saturday, 1 June 2024, from 10am until 1pm. To commemorate this special occasion, Temora Arts Centre and Temora Shire Council would like to formally invite the public to attend. The opening will also include morning tea infused with Aboriginal flavours by Temora Youth Hospitality team.
