For Immediate Release
SAN FRANCISCO, Tuesday, November 5, 2024 - Today is Election Day, and the Department of Elections urges every eligible San Franciscan who have yet to vote to make their voices heard.

Voting in Person. Today, from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m., approximately 2,000 poll workers will be ready to assist voters at 501 polling places throughout the city, as well as at the City Hall Voting Center. Voters can confirm their assigned polling place location by visiting sfelections.gov/myvotinglocation, checking the back of their Voter Information Pamphlet, or calling (415) 554-4375.

Conditional Registration and Voting. Eligible San Francisco residents who have not yet registered can still participate in today's election by completing a provisional envelope that serves as a registration form and casting a provisional ballot. After Election Day, the Department will verify and count all valid provisional ballots. Starting Friday, November 8, voters who cast a provisional ballot can check the status of their ballot by visiting sfelections.gov/pvlookup or calling (415) 554-4375.

Returning Vote-by-Mail Ballots: Voters returning a vote-by-mail ballot in person must do so before 8 p.m. today, either at any official ballot drop box, polling place, or the City Hall Voting Center. For a list and map of official ballot drop boxes in San Francisco, visit sfelections.gov/ballotdropoff.

For those returning a vote-by-mail ballot via USPS on Election Day, it is important to confirm that the last mail pickup time has not passed before depositing their ballot into a USPS mailbox. If the last pickup has already occurred, the ballot will be postmarked late and will not be counted. As an alternative, voters can bring their ballot to a local post office and confirm with a counter representative that it will be postmarked with today's date.

Ballot Delivery or Pickup Services: Voters who have not yet cast their ballot but are unable to travel to a polling location today can request ballot delivery and/or pickup services by calling the Department of Elections at (415) 554-4375. Additionally, any voter can also authorize another person to pick up a ballot for them at the City Hall Voting Center and/or return their ballot by completing the "Authorization" section of their return envelope.

Contacting the Department for Assistance: Anyone with questions about voting options or other election matters is encouraged to contact the Department as soon as possible. This allows Department staff to provide timely assistance while the polls are still open and voters have the chance to cast their votes.

Preliminary Election Results: After the polls close, the Department will issue four preliminary election results reports, which will be posted on sfelections.gov/results.
