Booker Statement on Supreme Court Ruling in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement after the Supreme Court's conservative majority discarded 40 years of established precedent in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo:

"On one issue after another, the Supreme Court's conservative majority has decided to let its political ideology trump settled law. The decision in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo is just the latest example.

"Today, the Supreme Court did away with the long-accepted legal doctrine known as 'Chevron deference' in a radical shift that will have far-reaching and damaging effects on nearly every aspect of Americans' lives - the air you breathe, the safety of your food and medications, your workplace conditions and more. The Supreme Court has handed special interests a giveaway by dramatically reducing the ability of federal agencies to address climate change, ensure the stability of financial markets, reduce gun violence, and many other critical issues. Rather than rely on scientific and subject matter experts who use scientific evidence to issue regulations to carry out the laws Congress passes, the Supreme Court wants to make the courts all-powerful and put the lives of the American people in the hands of judges who have no expertise or training on these complex issues.

"The Supreme Court's conservative majority is again wrong on the merits, and this decision will harm Americans."
