The DC Housing Authority hosted its first Rebuilding Our Communities Block Party at LeDroit Park on June 22, the first of five exciting and free, neighborhood block parties hosted by DCHA throughout the District this summer.

From mid-May through Labor Day weekend, DCHA is bringing community engagement events to our public housing residents through a rotation that touches on every property in our portfolio. Along with property-specific cookouts and other festivities, the Rebuilding Our Community series also features five neighborhood Block Parties that bring together residents of several public housing properties and neighbors from the surrounding community.

On June 22, residents from the Kelly Miller Apartments, LeDroit Apartments and Garfield Terrace, along with nearby neighbors enjoyed food, entertainment and games while getting to know one another and DCHA staff.

"As we invest in the maintenance and enhancement of our properties, DCHA is also investing in our relationships with our public housing families and District neighbors through engaging community building events and activities," said Executive Director Keith Pettigrew. "The Rebuilding Our Community Block Party series is an opportunity to foster new connections among neighbors and deepen existing ties, while creating a safe and fun gathering space for our youth."
