Condemned Person Michael F. Thornton Dies

VACAVILLE - Condemned person Michael F. Thornton passed away at California Medical Facility (CMF) on Monday, Oct. 14, 2024. He was 68 years old.

At 8:35 p.m., Thornton was pronounced deceased by a registered nurse in the hospice unit who determined the initial cause of death to be natural.

Thornton, was received from Riverside County Sept. 13, 2006, and placed on condemned status. He was convicted of first-degree murder with an enhancement for use of a firearm in the homicide of a school sophomore Michelle Curran in Rubidoux in 2001. He was also sentenced to six years for first-degree burglary, a third-strike offense. He was sentenced to four years for attempted penetration with a foreign object by threat of a public official to be served concurrent to the above sentence.
