Bangor firefighters respond to blaze at Court Street apartment building
BANGOR, Maine - The Fire Department was dispatched for a first-alarm assignment for smoke in the hallway at 74/76 Court St. on the evening of Thursday, Nov. 7.
First arriving crews arrived at 11:41 p.m. to find smoke coming from a two-story multi-unit apartment building. At 11:42 p.m. an "All Hands" assignment was initiated which brought additional resources to the scene and to cover the City.
Fire personnel found fire in the ceiling of the first-floor hallway and were able to make a quick attack on the flames. The fast notification to 911 from a tenant of the building about the fire, as well as the quick response and actions of the Fire Department, allowed the fire to be quickly brought under control within 30 minutes, at 12:14 a.m.
There was extensive overhaul performed on several apartment units. The last fire unit cleared the scene at 2:45 a.m.
Smoke detectors in the apartment building activated and all occupants safely evacuated. There were no injuries reported. Due to damage caused by the fire, several of the apartments became uninhabitable. Fire personnel worked with the tenants to find them a place to stay for the rest of the night. The American Red Cross was contacted to support the tenants of the building. The Maine State Fire Marshal's Office was also notified of the fire.
The fire is not considered suspicious.
The Bangor Fire Department was assisted by the following agencies:
• Air National Guard Fire Department
• Brewer Fire Department
