SWAT Team Arrests Barricaded Suspect

Released on Tuesday, August 20, 2024

On August 20, 2024, Fort Collins Police Criminal Impact Unit detectives were contacted by officers of the State of Colorado Parole Division to assist in apprehending a reportedly armed and dangerous fugitive. The fugitive is a suspect in a shooting that recently happened in another jurisdiction in Colorado and had felony warrants for his arrest. That suspect is Isaac Sanchez-Lopez (dob: 06/11/1997). The suspect was located at a residence in the 1100 block of West Mulberry Street in Fort Collins.

Due to information that the suspect was armed and involved in a violent crime, the Fort Collins Police SWAT Team responded to assist. Around 3 P.M. this afternoon, police attempted to contact Sanchez-Lopez, but he barricaded himself inside the residence. The SWAT Team worked to negotiate the peaceful surrender of Sanchez-Lopez, but he refused to exit the residence. A reverse 911 was sent to nearby residents in an abundance of caution while the situation was ongoing. The SWAT Team deployed chemical munitions into the residence, which resulted in Sanchez-Lopez surrendering and being taken into custody without further incident.

"The commitment and professionalism of Fort Collins Police, the SWAT Team, and our partner agencies led to this suspect being safely taken into custody. The tactics used resulted in no injuries to anyone involved tonight, and for that I'm grateful," said Assistant Chief Adam McCambridge, who oversees the Special Operations Division of the Fort Collins Police.

All suspects must be presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. This investigation is active and ongoing. No additional information will be released at this time.
