In keeping with recent years, the roughly 11,000 Terriers arriving for Move-in have chosen a specific day and time slot, from Wednesday, August 28, through Monday, September 2.

Students participating in this year's First- Year Student Outreach Project (FYSOP) will arrive Monday, August 26.

Fall 2024 campus repopulation offers students the choice of 8 am to noon or 1 to 5 pm on their day to check in at their designated Move-in location, pick up Terrier Cards if they didn't collect them at Orientation, and move into their rooms.

A possible logistical wrench this year comes via Red Sox home games at nearby Fenway Park on August 28 and 29. On the plus side, the weekend of the Move-in period "is usually our busiest time," and the Sox play out-of-town then, says Boston University Police Department (BUPD) Captain Lawrence Cuzzi.

To help with on-campus traffic flow, Cuzzi says, "We will have additional officers along all of the move-in routes to assist with traffic flow and parking," specifically along or at Babcock Street, Bay State Road, Warren Towers, Student Village II, 10 Buick Street, 610 Beacon Street, and the Buswell Street/Park Drive area.

Billy Hajjar, director of BU Transportation Services, cautions that students using moving trucks, box trucks, and moving vans should avoid Storrow Drive and Soldiers Field Road in Boston and Memorial Drive in Cambridge-those roads have height restrictions as low as nine feet.

Matriculation will be held at Agganis Arena on Sunday, September 1, at 2 pm, with the BU Bridge closed intermittently to traffic for the student procession to the ceremony, which begins at different times at different points between 12:30 and 1:15 pm.

Other relevant Move-in information, from BU's Housing site:

  • What should you bring to campus, and what should you leave at home? The University has suggestions.
  • If you placed personal belongings into the UPS Store summer storage program, your items will be available in designated areas near your check-in location. Please follow the posted signage to locate your storage return location.
  • Download and print your temporary Move-in Parking Permit. This should be displayed on the dashboard of your vehicle when parked in approved BU parking locations. Some of the approved parking lots may have a lowered parking gate. The QR code found on your permit can be scanned at entrance and exit kiosks to raise gates during your move-in period. You may also use your phone to capture the QR code for use when scanning to raise these gates-however, your permit must still be printed and displayed on the dashboard of your vehicle.
  • If you need to change your move-in day or time, log into the My Housing Portal, and cancel your original selection. You will be able to select a new appointment time.
  • Upon arrival, all students must go to their designated Move-in Location to officially check-in. Please do not begin to move in until you have completed this step. Before you arrive at your check-in location, you must sign in to the My Housing Portal on a mobile device and navigate to the Assignment History section. Prior to your appointment time, a QR code will be added on this page of the application, which you must show to a Residence Life staff member to check in.

  • Information regarding Dining Services, including hours of service at 4 all-you-care-to-eat dining rooms and 20-plus restaurants or campus eateries, can be found by visiting Dining Services.
  • During Move-in, the BU Shuttle (BUS) will be running Summer 1 BU route service with 30-minute frequency to 14 stops between the Charles River and Medical Campuses Monday, August 26, through Friday, August 30, from 6:30 am to midnight, and Saturday, August 31, from 6:30 am to 7 pm. On Sunday, September 1, and Monday, September 2, a special Comm Ave Loop Service will run from 7 am to 7 pm. The Late Night route will begin its services Saturday evening, August 31, at 7 pm, and full academic-year shuttle service and frequencies will begin on Tuesday, September 3, along the 1BU, Comm Ave loop, and Fenway routes. For live tracking, schedules, and service updates, be sure to use the Terrier Transit app. Additionally, to assist students residing across the BU Bridge at the Hyatt Regency Hotel during the coming fall and spring semesters, a new Hyatt shuttle route will run between the hotel and central campus beginning Wednesday, August 28.
  • If you've brought a bike or scooter to campus, be sure to stop by the BU Cycle Kitchen (BUCK) at 1019 Comm Ave to register it. Doing so will get you access to secure bike rooms campus-wide. BUCK staff will set you up with a helmet and lights at no charge, and if your bike needs a little tune-up, staff is happy to help you do that as well.

  • New MBTA fare option: Students who have determined the MBTA Semester Pass does not meet their needs can now tap to pay for individual trips on all MBTA buses and subway trains (including the Green Line) using a contactless credit card or smartphone with the MBTA's new Charlie system.
