NUHS Florida Students Receive 2024 Community Service Scholarships

Three National University of Health Sciences (NUHS) - Florida students were recognized with scholarships at the Pinellas Park Medical District (PPMD) scholarship breakfast held July 17. The event was hosted by the City of Pinellas Park, Florida.

NUHS Doctor of Chiropractic students Megan Royall, Max Shiver and Arianna Tsengouras received scholarships for their community service and the positive impact they have had for residents of Pinellas Park and the surrounding communities.

The students shared motivating stories about their service work and their passion for helping others. Attending dignitaries included the Mayor of Pinellas Park, a member of the City Council, the City Manager and numerous local community leaders. Following the event, several members of the community shared with Dr. Strauss, Dean, NUHS-Florida and Chair, PPMD, how impressed they are with NUHS students and the community work in which they consistently engage.

"It is so inspiring - I am so proud of our students for earning these scholarships and for the contributions they make!" said Dr. Strauss.

"From health and wellness initiatives, to providing outreach and education, to supporting individuals with mental illness and the underserved, National University students are a positive, healing influence in the community," he said.

The PPMD offers annual scholarships to well-rounded, compassionate, community-minded students seeking health care degrees. Awards range between $1,000 and $2,500. Since 2016, more than $50,000 in scholarship funds have been awarded. The mission of the PPMD is to promote and strengthen health care and related businesses within the community, and to provide the community with health care access conveniently and efficiently.

Dr. Strauss has served as the PPMD chairman since 2013 and was instrumental in creating and developing the scholarships as a sustainable initiative to help students achieve their educational goals. Along with other local institutions offering health care education, NUHS students in Florida are eligible to apply.
