Ukraine. Ambassador Formosa presents letters of credence to President Zelensky

The new Italian Ambassador to Kyiv, Carlo Formosa, has presented his letters of credence to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

At a cordial meeting to start off his mission, Ambassador Formosa confirmed for the President the Italian Government's firm support for Ukraine, its people, and its institutions, while reaffirming our country's commitment to cooperate towards creating the best possible conditions for a just, inclusive, and lasting peace.

The new Head of Mission emphasised that support for Ukraine has remained central to the action of the Italian G7 Presidency. Ambassador Formosa has also taken on the coordination of the G7 Ambassadors' Support Group for Kyiv, which is committed to supporting the Ukrainian Government and people's domestic reform efforts which are crucial for resilience, reconstruction, and the attraction of foreign investment, as well as for pursing Ukraine's path towards integration into the Euro-Atlantic community.

The meeting also examined the organisation of the International Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine in Rome in 2025, a commitment that Italy has taken on in order to maintain a sharp focus on the country's recovery needs, which are of essential importance for its post-conflict phase.

The meeting was attended by Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba and by the President's diplomatic advisors Mykola Tochytskyi and Ihor Zhovkva. The presentation ceremony was held in the historic complex of Saint Sophia Cathedral, a symbol of the Ukrainian nation's deep roots.
