July 25, 2024

This episode continues the discussion of collective bargaining agreement negotiations, from the table to the ballot.

Nuanced negotiators understand that you can't just [negotiate] the same way every time, because circumstances aren't the same. You've got to consider your audience. You have to consider who you're communicating with, and your communications are going to be more effective if you think about how they're going to be received and you calibrate them accordingly.

Duncan Crabtree-Ireland

SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator

SAG-AFTRA regularly negotiates contracts with major studios, networks and production companies on behalf of our members. The process is complex and involves members and staff, but most don't see every step up close and in person.

SAG-AFTRA Executive Vice President Linda Powell, TV Animation Negotiating Committee Co-Chair David Jolliffe, National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland and Chief Contracts Officer Ray Rodriguez continue their discussion of the negotiation process for collective bargaining agreements. There's more to any negotiation than what happens at the table, and throughout the episode, the group delves into the challenges that arise in working to achieve the union's desired contract terms.

Together, they outline the factors that can affect the bargaining process, including collaborations with other unions and the dynamics of each negotiating group, and the steps needed to successfully ratify any union contract.
