Lewisporte RCMP responds to moose-vehicle collision on TCH near Norris Arm, driver dies days later

Last week, Lewisporte RCMP responded to a moose-vehicle collision that occurred on the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) near Norris Arm. The lone occupant of the vehicle, an 81-year-old man, died in hospital a few days later.

The collision between the car and a moose occurred on the highway at approximately 6:00 a.m. on July 8, 2024. The moose was located deceased in the eastbound lane. The driver was removed from the vehicle by firefighters and was transported to the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre for treatment of serious injuries. He was further transported to the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's. On July 16, police learned that the driver had succumbed to his injuries.

A Traffic Analyst from RCMP Traffic Services attended the scene of the collision and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is engaged.

The investigation is continuing.
