HARRISBURG - A greenhouse at the largest indoor lettuce farm in the world and a new police station in Palmerton Borough are now closer to reality thanks to $2.5 million in state grants. Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) and Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-122) worked with local leaders to secure this funding.
"I'm pleased to see this funding has been awarded to Carbon County, as it will benefit many," said Heffley. "This funding will improve public safety by providing the Palmerton Police Department with a state-of-the-art facility. Additionally, Little Leaf Farms, the world's largest indoor lettuce producer, will create hundreds of valuable jobs as a result of this support. Together, these initiatives promise to have a lasting positive impact on public safety and economic growth."
"By funding these projects, we'll see new, family-sustaining jobs and make Carbon County safer," said Argall.
Little Leaf Farms was awarded $1.5 million to construct a new greenhouse at their facility in Banks Township, just outside of McAdoo. They plan six greenhouses at this location, creating at least 300 jobs. Three are now in operation, with a fourth breaking ground soon.
Palmerton Borough was awarded $1 million to construct a brand-new, state-of-the-art police station. This new station will allow the Palmerton Borough Police Department to respond to emergencies faster and perform their important work in a safer and more efficient manner.
Funding was awarded through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which awards grants to economic development projects that have a regional impact.
