A Mammoth Achievement: Food Scraps Composting Goal Reached

The City of Madison set an ambitious goal to compost 22,000 thousand pounds of food scraps at our farmers' market drop-off sites this year. This is roughly the weight of two adult mammoths.

We are thrilled to announce that not only have we received our goal weight - we have stampeded past it. And there's still time left to bring your food scraps to our market sites this year.

As of this release, we have collected over 24,000 pounds - and this number continues to grow thanks to all of your help bringing in food scraps, and the dedicated Sustain Dane interns and volunteers staffing our drop-off locations at the market sites. And a great deal of thanks belongs to Robert Pierce and the Neighborhood Food Solutions farm for accepting and composting these scraps.

There's still time left to bring in scraps. We've collected two mammoths, and the weight of a fair-sized young one. How much more robust can be we make our mammoth family? That is up to you.

The West Community Farmers' Market is available every Saturday mornings. The final day for this market is November 2, 2024.

The Eastside Farmers' Market and the South Madison Farmers' Market are both on Tuesdays in the late afternoon into the early evening. Their final date of operation will be on October 29, 2024.
