Fall Leaf Pick-up & Seasonal Reminders

The Village's fall leaf pick-up program will continue through Friday, November 29. This program provides the opportunity for residents to dispose of leaves during the fall at no cost. When the fall leaf collection program is not in effect, leaves can be included as part of the Flood Brothers yard waste collection process from April 1 to December 15. Please note that pumpkins placed out with leaves for pickup will not be collected by the Village but can be included in yard waste placed out for collection by Flood Brothers.

As an alternative to raking and hauling leaves, consider putting those leaves to work as compost or mulch. There are many ways to compost your pumpkins, leaves, and food scraps. You can compost at home by using backyard bins or by choosing a service to pick up your organics. Leaves are generally collected every other week from Village streets. Heavy leaf drop may result in crews taking up to three weeks to get through the entire Village. Conduct of the program does not allow for a set schedule or route. Please review the proper methodology for placing the leaves out for pickup as explained below:

  • Clean, loose leaves should be raked into the gutter on streets with curbs, approximately one foot from the curb. Do not rake leaves into one large pile.
  • All leaves must be free of brush, branches, and other debris. The collection program is for leaves only.
  • Leaves on La Grange Road, Ogden Avenue, 47th Street, East Avenue, west side of Brainard Avenue and the east side of Gilbert should be placed on the parkway.
  • Leaves may become slippery when wet. Please drive safely around leaf piles.
  • Keep catch basins clear of raked leaves. Clogged basins may cause street flooding.
  • Please remember to keep garbage and recycling carts in the parkway for pick-up, and not in the street.

In the event of snow, the Village will make every effort to finish leaf collection once snow clearing operations have been completed. For more information, please contact the Department of Public Works at (708) 579-2328.
