Minister Nguyen Chi Dung: promoting innovation for strong, prosperous Vietnam

(MPI) - Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung affirmed that his ministry will continue coordinating closely with relevant agencies to operate effectively the National Innovation Center (NIC), contributing to promoting innovation towards the goal of "building a strong and prosperous Vietnam" assigned by the Party, Government and Prime Minister, while attending the Innovate Vietnam 2024 and the fifth anniversary of NIC on October 1.

In his opening speech, Minister Dung said that in order to concretise the Resolution No. 52-NQ/TW on a number of guidelines and policies to actively participate in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, on October 2, 2019, the National Innovation Center (NIC) was established by the Prime Minister with the mission of being the driving force to promote the development of Vietnam's innovation ecosystem. Its goal is to swiftly seize the unprecedented opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, enabling Vietnam to break through and rise.

Emphasising NIC's achievements over the past five years, the minister pointed out that NIC has actively establishing and developing the innovation ecosystem while proposing solutions to perfect mechanisms, policies and laws on innovation and startups.NIC has become the core and pioneering of the country's innovation ecosystem.

An innovation ecosystem has been established with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor industry, making NIC and Vietnam become trustworthy partner of many global leading tech corporations such as SK, Google, NVIDIA, Meta and Samsung.

NIC also completed its two operating facilities in Ha Noi and Hoa Lac High-Tech Park with a total area of over 30,000 sq.m, which are the largest innovation facility in Vietnam and the region.

Besides, NIC has established 10 innovation networks in 20 countries and territories, gathering over 2,000 members are experts and intellectuals; helping Vietnamese innovative start-ups fully access to high-quality financial, investment, communication, technology, and digital transformation resources; supporting the incubation of more than 1,000 start-ups, connecting 1,500 innovative start-ups and organizing over 100 competitions and awards for them.

The minister added that the NIC has been assigned to manage the training programme to develop human resources for the semiconductor industry, and having strong partnership with various global leading semiconductor businesses such as Qorvo, ARM, Marvell, Cadence, Synosyps, NVIDIA and Siemens.

It is an ambitious goal as Vietnam targeted to have 1,300 lectures and at least 50,000, semiconductor engineers by 2050, while establishing, upgrading and modernising four national-level laboratories along with 18 standard laboratories to serve the training of human resources.

"There is still a long and challenging journey ahead, but with the motto "if you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together" and the determination and support from all parties, the Ministry of Planning and Investment will continue closely coordinating with relevant ministries, agencies and domestic, foreign partners to effectively and successfully operate the NIC, contributing to promoting innovative values towards the goal of "building a strong and prosperous Vietnam" assigned by the Party, Government and Prime Minister", Minister Dung affirmed./.
