August 1, 2024

I hope that you are safely enjoying our warm summer days and all of the beauty that our dynamic Washington-Mid Atlantic region has to offer.

Happy summer! I hope that you are safely enjoying our warm summer days and all of the beauty that our dynamic Washington-Mid Atlantic region has to offer.

Your elected union officers and convention delegates have been hard at work this summer on your behalf. Let's begin with convention. As you know, in October, our national convention concluded before all business was completed so that our negotiators could head back to the table. They reached a historic agreement with the AMPTP after months of negotiations and a successful strike. The work of the convention resumed again in June. For two days, your WMA delegates voted on dozens of resolutions proposed by fellow SAG-AFTRA members from around the country.

We are grateful that in late May, the health plan's board of trustees, of which I am a member, voted unanimously to implement an infertility benefit to our health plan. It will take effect on Jan. 1, 2025. Basic information on the benefit can be found here, and more details are expected soon.

For more than two years, our local has championed adding this benefit. The recent call to add infertility care to our plan began in our D.C.-area broadcast shops then spread up the East Coast and to the west.

Some very good news on the broadcast front! The WHUR/Howard University bargaining unit fully ratified its latest contract! We were able to secure important protections and accomplish new gains for this historic unit.

Everyone, please enjoy the benefits that we have fought for and take comfort in your union membership!

In solidarity,

Tracee Wilkins
