City of Syracuse Hosts Public Meeting for Syracuse Housing Strategy

Published on August 19, 2024

The City of Syracuse Department of Neighborhood and Business Development will host a public input meeting to hear from residents about the Syracuse Housing Strategy, a multi-year framework for improving housing conditions in the city of Syracuse. The meeting takes place on Wednesday, August 21 at 5:30 p.m. at Soule Branch Library, 101 Springfield Road.

At the meeting, attendees can learn what the strategy recommends for the Eastwood, Elmwood, Salt Springs, and Tipperary Hill neighborhoods. There will be a brief overview of the strategy followed by an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback.

The Syracuse Housing Strategy is based on community input and the findings of the Syracuse Housing Study, a comprehensive analysis of the Syracuse housing market completed in mid-2023. The study revealed that nearly every housing challenge that exists in Syracuse is tied to having either a market or affordability gap, meaning there is a large gap between the cost to create and maintain housing and the level of willingness (market gap) or ability (affordability gap) to pay for housing in Syracuse.

To learn more, the housing study and strategy reports are available online at syracusehousingstudy.com.
