UW Disability Support Services to Launch New Accommodations Request Portal

University of Wyoming students and faculty members will see some noticeable changes in disability service accommodation requests and approvals before the fall semester begins.

Beginning this fall, Disability Support Services (DSS) will launch the new Accessibility Information Management (AIM) portal, providing students and faculty a more streamlined process to request and monitor accommodation requests.

In recent years, DSS, which aids with academic and housing accommodations, has experienced a sizeable increase in the number of accommodation requests. There are currently around 1,500 active UW students using DSS accommodations, with nearly 2,400 appointments scheduled with the DSS office each semester.

This new system will give students better access to their information and an easier process for establishing accommodations, submitting test requests and more. It also will provide faculty members a streamlined process to view information about their courses and students with accommodations and will provide more accurate test information for proctoring exams more effectively.

Much work has been done by the Information Technology team and DSS over the summer, including a revamp of the DSS website. Faculty members can keep an eye out for further communications about how they can best prepare for implementation. The DSS office will work to provide AIM training via videos and information guides for students and faculty to review.

These efforts are intended to help faculty and students understand how to use the platform. One key change is that students can now submit their test dates through AIM to schedule proctoring with the DSS Testing Center. Faculty then will be able to review exam requests, provide exam information and upload the actual exams for DSS to prepare for students.

DSS looks forward to partnering with campus to ensure a smooth transition to AIM. Questions can be directed to [email protected].
