Donation of 50 IP730D IP Transceivers for Reconstruction and Recovery Efforts of the Earthquake in the Eastern Taiwan

Icom Incorporated (Icom) first and foremost, expresses our deepest condolences to those who lost their lives in the earthquake that struck eastern Taiwan on April 3, 2024, and extend our heartfelt sympathies to all those who were affected.

Icom has donated 50 Hybrid IP Transceiver to the fire department and other facilities in Hualien County in the eastern part of Taiwan which sustained severe damage in the disaster, as reconstruction support for disaster-stricken areas. Considering these circumstances, Icom decided to make this donation after conducting a survey to learn about the communications infrastructure-related needs of the disaster-stricken areas through Icom distributor in Taiwan.

The donated IP730D is Hybrid IP Transceiver that provides professional VHF radio mode, and IP mode that is nationwide coverage over a mobile phone network. Long-distance communication that is not possible with professional VHF radio mode is possible with IP mode. By taking advantage of IP mode feature, the fire department in Hualien County and fire and rescue teams from other counties can share information in real time.

Icom initially donated 28 units of the IP730D to the fire department in Hualien County. At the ceremony recognizing this donation, Shinya Terasaki, General Manager of Icom's International Sales Department, said to Mr. Wu, Director of the fire department of Hualien County. "Both Taiwan and Japan are countries prone to natural disasters. Whenever a disaster occurs in Japan, Taiwan is always the first to provide support. This time, Taiwan suffered severe damage. As a company specializing in wireless communication, we would like to support as much as possible in the reconstruction and recovery efforts." Mr. Wu responded, "The communication systems that use mobile applications are set up to contact with distant locations, but there is no substitute for the convenience of a wireless communication device that allows us to communicate instantly by voice in the case of emergencies. The IP730D that calls through the mobile phone network will support and speed up reconstruction and recovery efforts and will also provide a safe system in the case a large-scale aftershock occurs. We would like to thank Icom for this donation and reconstruction support."
